1. Craiyon
One of my favorites, simple and easy to use AI image generator, only major skill needed is knowing the right prompts, Cons; it is not good at full body images, not good at hands, feets and weapons, only square dimensions, only one model and no advanced option, images are free and unlimited to generate and use with orange watermark crayion at bottom right to indicate the free version, and you might need to upscale the image for a better quality.

2. StarryAI
Another favorite of mine, however the bias is very strong, and it is easy to detect images made with it from unskilled users, only allows for one dimension but a trick allows you for a second, and more with the pro version, one has to be a bit careful with it also because it could generate NSFW images unexpectedly, it has no watermark, and requires 1 credit for image generation, however free credits are given daily. It allows for image input and modifications of image.

3. Getimg AI
Should have been one of my best, but it’s not easy to get credits, so I try not to use them up and hence can’t experiment a lot with it to push it’s boundaries, however the images generated are of good quality without watermarks and opportunity to tweak dimensions, 1 credit is required for image generation. It has 24 models to play with. . It allows for image input and modifications of image.

4. Canva
A lot of people still don’t know Canva has an AI for image generation, you can find it under apps, it used to be unlimited but as the time of this write up, it is limited to about 50 credits for the free version with 1 credit for 4 alternative images.
5. Bing
Powered by DALL-E, used to be my favorite, with 100 credits daily top up and 1 credit pay image generation with 4 alternative images to choose from, however with no advanced mode, and no ability to change dimensions, and watermarked with “b” at bottom left, I’ve since changed to other favorites, the image quality is very good though and will definitely keep you coming back for more.

6. Dream by Wombo
Bias is very strong with Dream by wombo but it is bias you would love, it has optional art styles that can influence the bias, but a trained eye can still tell images generated by it, although majority of the styles are for premium users. You can’t influence the dimensions on the free version however the app allows for that and I think discord, it censors NSFW images and could be frustrating especially if it wasn’t your intention, it restricts the number of words you can prompt, which used to be a bad thing when I started but now I appreciate, It has an interesting feature for block-chain, in which you can attach your wallet, I didn’t, but might make NFTs an interesting add on in this space. It allows for image input and modifications of image.

7. Dream studio
By stability AI, amazing output, but not enough credits, perhaps it shouldn’t be on the list, but it’s still free to use until you run out of credits, I’m saving mine till I really have a good prompt, and it burns the credit fast averaging 7.2 credits for 4 alternative images(for SDXL V1.0) . It has advanced modes, allows for variety of dimensions and aspect ratios, image input and modifications of image.
8. AISEO art
Amazing output, very low credits and should also not be on the list, but it offers a 3day free trial and has other features like audio and video generators that make it a formidable player in the space, with advanced modes and different models to choose from, definitely a powerful generator.

9. Picsart
I was probably one of the early adopters and trainers of this AI, I was able to bypass a lot of its guard rails in its early days and pushed it to its limits, it is now more refined, and with a lot of categories and styles leaving you spoilt for choice, not initially meant for just image generation, but has since adapted to be one of the best free ones you can find if you know where to look, there are more restrictions unlike before where I could generate at will, now I get prompted to start a 7 day free trial. Totally worth the offer though, saving it for a day when I might need it.

10. MuratiAI
You might have to be an anime fan to appreciate this, total bias is Anime, the other models are locked, hoping it would get better soon, until then; it’s probably the winner from the bottom on this list.
11. Hotpot
Would have been among the best, but also has a strong bias to anime and cartoon generation, unless you are good at prompting to overcome this, it has a variety of styles to choose from, only one aspect ratio of 1;1, unless you are ready to buy credit, you are entitled to only 10 image generations daily and they don’t stack up.

12. Lexica
It has a particular high quality feel and look, could be mistaken for Leonardo or midjourney, however it earns its right to stand as a strong contender among AI image generators. It allows for image upload and advance mode, and flexibility in dimensions.
